BREED INFORMATION
The Maine Coon Cat
The Maine Coon cat is the biggest of all cat breeds, with a strong, muscular physique and thick legs. Large ears held wide and tall and a squared-off muzzle are features of the head. The long, thick coat of a Maine coon kitten is made up of an undercoat that is thickly coated in a glossy, water-resistant top coat. The hair is shorter on the head, neck, and shoulders and gets longer toward the back, sides, and tail. The belly and breeches have thick, scruffy hair. There is a ruff, which is heavier on men than women and starts at the base of the ears. The tail has long, flowing hair. The tips of the ears are tufted. Additionally, the paws have tufts that resemble snowshoes. The Maine Coon cat breed has a variety of 30 or more colours. The eyes maybe green, gold or copper – in white cats it is possible to have blue or odd eyes.

History & Origins
The longhaired coats that mariners brought to the American state of Maine in the 1850s were the forebears of the Maine Coon cat. The shorthair cats in the area mated with these cats. The name “Maine Coon” refers to the offspring, who were large, powerfully built cats with semi-long coats and brush-like tails that looked like raccoon tails. In order to survive the harsh winters in Maine, the cats acquired thick, dense coats. As early as the 1860s, special shows were held for Maine coons kittens, and the breed quickly gained popularity as a pet. In the 1980s, the Maine coon kitten was brought to the UK.
“Our kittens are raised with love, tested for health, and nurtured for temperament — because your family deserves a happy, healthy companion.”
Nutrition & Feeding
Every cat is different, and each has specific food preferences, aversions, and requirements. Cats, on the other hand, must consume 41 distinct and particular nutrients from their food because they are carnivores. It is not surprising that a growing, active Maine-coon kitten needs a different balance of nutrients in her diet than a less active senior cat because the proportion of these nutrients will vary depending on age, lifestyle, and general health. Other considerations to bear in mind are feeding the right quantity of food to maintain ‘ideal body condition’ in accordance with feeding guidelines and catering to individual preference regarding wet or dry food recipes.
